I am so excited to share some of my favorite finds on Organic Cotton clothing for women from Canadian Brands. I have found there are so many American based and international brands with clean clothing, but getting them into Canada always has extra shipping and import fees.
So naturally, I started looking for better options closer to home.
But before getting into brands, it’s important to understand what you’re actually buying, because not all “cotton” is created equal.
Organic Cotton vs Cotton on clothing labels, what is the difference?
First it’s important to know that items labelled “100% Cotton” is very different from items labelled “100% Organic Cotton”
At first glance, “100% Cotton” sounds like the best, safest option. But in reality, conventional cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world. It’s often treated with pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and chemicals throughout the growing and manufacturing process. On top of that, many conventional cotton garments are bleached, dyed, and finished with additional chemicals before they ever reach your closet.
On the other hand, 100% Organic Cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or synthetic chemicals, and is typically processed in a much cleaner, lower-toxicity way. It’s better for your skin, better for the environment, and often better quality overall.
Does it have to be ALL Organic Cotton?
This is where balance comes in.
Not every piece of clothing is going to be 100% organic cotton, especially when it comes to fit and functionality. Things like activewear, fitted tops, underwear, and denim often need a small percentage of another material (like elastane or spandex) to provide stretch, structure, and durability.
A good rule of thumb: If a piece is made with 90–95% organic cotton and under 10% of another material, that’s still a better, practical choice.
You’re still getting the benefits of organic fabric, while allowing for comfort and wearability in real life.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about being perfect, it’s about making better choices where it actually matters.
